Welcome to the World of Bike Polo!

Hey there, fellow bike enthusiasts! Have you ever dreamed of combining the thrill of cycling with the strategy of a team sport? Well, look no further because bike polo might just be your new favorite pastime!

What is Bike Polo?

First things first, let's answer the burning question: what exactly is bike polo? Start with a scoop of cycling, add a dollop of hockey, sprinkle in a touch of classic horse polo and you’ll get Bike Polo (aka hardcourt polo, bicycle polo, bici polo or velo polo).

Players ride bicycles and wield mallets to score goals, all while zipping around a court with the finesse of a ballerina on wheels. It's fast-paced, it's exhilarating, and it's downright addictive!

Basic Rules

  1. If your foot touches the ground (“dab”) you must “tap in” at the center of the wall on either side of the court before continuing play.

  2. You can move the ball using any part of the mallet head, but to score a goal you must use one of the circular ends.

  3. The winner is the team with the most goals after 12 minutes or the first team to get 5 goals.

Equipment

Every player has a slightly unique setup and collection of gear, but here are the basics:

  • The Bike: Generally single-speed with a low gear ratio, a short wheel base, and one front brake.

  • The Mallet: A plastic head attached to a metal shaft, length and materials depend on the players height and preference.

  • The Ball: A hard plastic street hockey ball, different options to use depending on the play area temperature.

  • The Court: Any enclosed court with a hard surface such as tennis, basketball, or hockey courts. Dimensions are 60-80 ft wide and 120-150 ft long.

  • Protective Wear: Helmets are required for most competitive play, some player wear face cages, knee and elbow pads, hip pads, gloves, etc.
